Reclaimed Wood Shower Curtains

Olive and Love used some reclaimed wood for a little project:

That beautiful image is actually her shower curtain:

Silly me, I always thought that shower curtains had to hang from a rod and you had to be able to slide them.  But really, is there ever a need to keep them open longer then stepping into a shower?  Now maybe for a kids bathroom when they are taking baths, but I am pretty sure the very small function that is lost is made up for by the sheer beauty.

And I think it would be great for regular curtains too.  Especially in a room like a bathroom where they don't spend much time being open anyways.  In fact, I bet the ruffled curtain would look even better hanging from hooks.

And if you are only in the mood for Christmas ideas, you could use the same idea as a pretty cute rustic stocking hanger!

Faux Canvas Print

Beckie wanted a canvas print of her family portrait, but she didn't want to fork out the small fortune that they usually cost.  So being the crafty lady that she is, she she figured out a way to come up with one on her own:

She printed her photo in a large poster size, and then used Mod Podge and a canvas drop cloth to create a texture on top of the photo:

It looks beautiful and you can learn how to make your own faux canvas print for around $30 dollars over at Infarrantly Creative.

Cupboard Pot Rack

I absolutely love this pot rack from Between 3 Sisters:

Look at all those beautiful pans.  Look how perfectly organize they will stay.   They have a tutorial for installing this rack that they purchased, but I am pretty sure this could be pretty easy to DIY!

This is going on my list for the new house!

Rosette Throw Pillow

See this cute throw pillow:

Linds made one of her own:

And she did most of it without any sewing.  She used her handy dandy glue gun to make the rosettes and then sewed them on to the pillow.

You can see her tutorial over at That's So Cuegly.

How To Add Crown Molding To Your Kitchen Cabinets

I am in full Valentine's Day swing here, but in the background (also known as real life) I am also in the home buying mode.  So I can't help put share this post with you from Remodelaholics on how to add crown molding to your kitchen cabinets.  How to turn this:

into this:

Mostly I am blogging about it so that in a couple of months I will know where to find it, but hopefully it will be useful to some of you too!

You can also see the tutorial over at Houseography.

Furniture Glazing

We used our magical rewards points from our Amex to buy ourselves a new TV for Christmas.  Our old TV was starting to lose color...so much that when kids would come over to play they would ask what was wrong with our TV.  It was one thing when 9 year old boys mentioned it, but when 3 year olds started to notice we knew it was time.

The new TV will require a TV stand.  I want something like this dresser from Tiffany Ruda:

or this one that belongs to my favorite cousin in law Katie :

So I will be keeping my eyes on Craigslist for just the right dresser and bookmarking this tutorial from Sausha from Show and Tell on how she glazes furniture:

Of course this all needs to happen quickly because the TV is sitting on the floor at the moment and Ruby  almost kicks it every time she dances around the living room.

Magazine Rack

If you are in the mood to get organized for 2011, you might like this magazine rack that Andy made:

I love the hook that she hung decorative keys from.  I actually think it would make a great place to store my mail when I don't have time to go through it, and a couple extra hooks and it would work for actual keys instead of just decorative ones.  A multi-tasker!

You can see the tutorial for this magazine rack/mail holder/key ring over at Poppies at Play.

Decorated Roller Shade

Ikea Hacker shared this painted roller shade project from Birdhouse Family:

They actually painted the tree on the shade in their bathroom, but I am thinking you could do the same thing with Christmas themed silhouettes in vinyl or paper so that they would only be temporary.  Or you can paint on a design to make it long term like this tree.

You can check out the project at Birdhouse Family

Stacked Wood Fireplace

If you don't have a fireplace in your home and would love a mantel for Christmas, Apartment Therapy shared this stacked wood fireplace that was created by Small Notebook:

Of course you could just use a shelf, but what fun is there in that!

DIY Dutch Door

When I was eight years old my dad built a playhouse for me in the backyard.  My dad built houses for a living, so this house was truly a little house.  It had electricity (with a little TV and light inside), a sliding glass window, and a dutch door.  The electricity was cool, but the dutch door was my favorite.

Karla from It's The Little Things That Make A House A Home took a regular door:

And transformed it into a dutch door:

Isn't it pretty.  I am so jealous!  I love it and now I want a house with a dutch door to the backyard.

You can see the transformation and dream of a dutch door of your own right HERE.
