Bedroom Makeover

My partner from Crafting with the Stars if the very talented Kiki from Kiki Creates that I introduced you too last week.

I wanted to show you the AMAZING room transformation that she did for her project this week:

It used to look like this:

The transformation would have been amazing by itself.  The fact that she did it in 2 days blows me away!

She sewed the duvey, made 5 pillows, made the headboard, and threw in a cute book page wreath to go with it!

And if THAT wasn't amazing enough, she did it all with items from the Thrifty Store!

I cannot wait to see her project for this week!!

Lemonade Stand Headboard

We have been looking at new homes, which means going through a LOT of models.  I tend to forget my phone in the car,  so I often miss out on things I would love to show you.

I was really glad that I had my phone today when I saw this cute headboard:

The entire room had a lemonade stand theme and I loved the awning and the lemonade stand that stood in for the headboard.

And the canvases that hung next to the bed were pretty cute too:

I was thinking how cute an entire North Pole village would be with signs for toy shops and candy shops hanging frow awnings. I guess that would be a little overboard for Christmas though!  But a canvas painted with hot cocoa and candy canes would be cute!

Hardware Store Headboard

Shanty 2 Chic made these cute headboards with hardware store purchases:

A drop cloth, styrofoam insulation, and some paint.  As if I didn't have enough reasons to love Home Depot!

More Headboards

After wasting two hours online looking at master bedrooms the only think I found that I liked was this tutorial from BHG on how to make this headboard:


using two doors and some trim:

But the chances of me finding two identical used doors is pretty unlikely, and a new door would cost me $100 each...so that probably isn't going to happen. Not to mention that there is a vent under my bed (intake for the AC) so I couldn't use the idea unless I moved the bed to a different wall...which I don't think is going to happen.

At least I like the mismatched nightstands.

I think I am going to narrow down my master bedroom searching to just new bedding for now. Hopefully I will find something that I will fall in love with!

Do It Yourself Headboards

We are a headboardless family. Technically Lou La has a daybed and Toots is still in a crib. So those don't count. But when I put Toots in a big girl bed I want to redo their room anyways. And the boy...no headboard. And us. No headboard. I have always liked the idea of making your own. In fact I have my dad on the lookout for a door so that I can do this:



Then I saw this on Erin's blog Shades of Color:

Behind the bed is a mirror. They type of mirror that sets on top of a dresser. She removed the glass, cut wood to fit inside, and then covered it in fabric. And it is gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. And now I am obsessed with the idea of headboards.

Better Homes and Gardens has some great ideas on their site right now. Way too many great ideas!

I have seen this idea before, but never in shapes. You take MDF. You cut it to the shape you want (or leave it as a rectangle). And then cover it with batting and fabric (and then use a heavy duty staple gun on the back). I would probably just leave it a rectangle because I don't think I could make a symmetrical shape!

A shabby vintage mantel. I am sure not vintage mantel would look good too. Or you could take a not vintage mantel and distress the heck out of it with a hammer and some sandpaper!

I have often seen the idea of stretching fabric over a blank canvas to hang as art in your home, but if you can find a canvas big enough (or make multiple canvases...three is always good) and use them as a headboard.

This one I love. LOVE. That is a piece of over the door molding, wall mounted hooks, and a bench cushion. You mount the hooks on the wall, hang the bench cushions from the ties, and then top the hooks with the molding.

I think the metal screen would look nice with or without the block of paint behind it (and the swirls)

MDF painted a shade or two darker than the wall (is there a shade or two darker than white?) and then apply decals (wallpaper or vinyl or if you are super talented you could just paint it yourself) to the headboard and the wall.
