Sassy Sites has a Christmas card holder that I love:

She got the idea to use shutters from A Diamond in the Stuff:

And I saw this one at Pretty Handy Girl and she uses clothes pins to secure hers, which could be decorated with some red and white stripes to make them even more festive:

And the best part is that if you decide to make them now, you don't have to put them away after Christmas!  You can just use the shutters as a regular message board like How Does She:

I have always been a fan of shutters, so I have to say that this is one of my favorite ideas for displaying Christmas cards.

No WIndow Boxes

I love window boxes.  I have never had one on any of the houses I have lived in (mostly because I always lived in Arizona and there wasn't much you could grow there that didn't want to die in the 115 degree weather.

And now that I am in Texas where pretty things do grow, I don't have any windows that are really window box ready.  But Carolyn from My Backyard Eden solved that problem for me:

She used an old window to make one where there wasn't and added a flower box!  A great way to get that window box right where you want it.

I just think it needs some shutters.

Beautiful Shutter Wall

I know why I can never find any cute old shutters!  Laura from Olive and Love took them all!  (kidding...she lives in NV, so I am sure she isn't the source of my problem!)

Laura is covering an entire wall of her house with shutters!  And before you even TRY to picture it, just LOOK at it:

The project is being featured at RoboJunker, which is where I fell in love with it!  At First Sight!

She also posted about a restaurant (that she heard about AFTER her project) that has shutters on the wall AND ceiling:

I think I like Laura's better!

Heart Shutters

Kelly from My Dear Trash made these very cute heart shutters for her Country Kitchen:

And I think they would be such a fun Valentine's Day decoration for my mantle.  A little late, but I maybe I can get some made before next year!  And if you love country decor you might just want them around all year.

Shutter Headboards

I gasped out loud when I saw this picture from Shanty2Chic:


Old shutters, crown molding and some paint. It is almost like magic. You have to go see this project start to finish on her blog. I mean REALLY! They started out like this:

Better Homes and Gardens

If you are signed up for their email newsletter, then you can just skip this post. In less of course you haven't read the email they sent out yesterday. In that case read on. Because EVERYTHING in this post comes from that email. (And I love them, but their sight can be a pain to navigate through!!)

Their flea market finds were full of really great stuff.

Like who needs a big old mirror to use gorgeous shutters!

I love shutters. And I love that Layla from The Lettered Cottage hung shutters on each side of a large mirror in her living room:

Now I just have to find some shutters...and a large mirror!

Under the Bed Storage

The idea of using drawers or boxes on casters for under the bed storage isn't a new one, but I love what BHG did to make these boring boxes more attractive:


After constructing the boxes out of 1 inch wooden planks, they used decorative radiator grills in the front to add a little spunk.

They used the same idea on the windows instead of shutters:
