Valentine's Day Sugar Cookies
Shelley from How Does She shows you how to decorate your valentine sugar cookies with the beautiful heart boarder:
She also has a couple of other designs that are more for an adult Valentine's Day party, but I think I will stick with the kid friendly hear borders.

Santa's Cookie Wreath and Sugar Cookie Ornaments
I saw these faux sugar cookie ornaments over at Creature Comforts:
and expected to see a cute shot of them hanging on her Christmas tree. I was not expecting the super cute Santa's Cookie Wreath that she used them on:
What a cute idea for a wreath! And a perfect one to hang over your fireplace.

Sugar Cookie Bars
Imperfectly Beautiful made (and tasted) what I thought was a cute flag cake:
But it isn't a cake at all! They are sugar cookie bars. YUM! I won't be making it today, but I can replace the stars and stripes with some summer colored fruit (mandarin oranges, kiwi, raspberries) and will be making it for Sunday dessert soon!

A New Sugar Cookie Recipe
I have a sugar cookie recipe that I love. This one. It uses cream. Cream makes me happy. They are divine. And you don't have to let them sit in the fridge forever! I am all about instant gratification. Not stick it in the refrigerator to chill for three hours before you can cut them out gratification.
But lately I have seen a few recipes for Sugar Cookies that call for sour cream. Like this one from Simply This, That, and The Other:
And I think I might have to try it. I could be missing something?
Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies
What you need:
1/2 cup Butter
1 cup Sugar
1 Egg
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon Soda
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
1/2 Cup Sour Cream
2 2/3 Cup Flour
What you do:
Heat oven to 375 degrees
Cream together all of the ingredients except the flour.
(this is what her recipe says to do...but I am going to cream together the butter and sugar, then add the egg, vanilla and sour cream. Them mix the baking soda and salt to the flour and add it that way. And not just because that is the way I was taught. There are benefits to the whole creaming butter thing. I will have to post about it sometime.) Now back to her recipe.
Add:
2 2/3 Cup Flour
(The dough will be sticky) Divide dough in half and roll it out to 1/4" thickness on a well floured surface and cut out your cookies.
Bake 8-10 minutes until LIGHTLY browned on bottom
Let cookies cool, frost and store in airtight container
****************************************
I think I am going to have to give these a shot. Lou La wanted to make cookies on Saturday, but we never did. I am going to try to fit these in our Presidents Day of fun today! And maybe we will use fondant to decorate them!
Have you ever had sugar cookies made with sour cream? What did you think?
