Useful Gourds

I love these ideas from Better Homes and Gardens that I saw on Wedelicious:

A vase:
a candy dish:

and a candle holder:

I love how useful pretty Fall gourds can be!

Real Simple Gourd Centerpiece

Jennifer from Hostess with the Mostest has a fun gig over at Real Simple. Yesterday she posted this beautiful Gourd Centerpiece:

And it is beautiful! I think part of the reason I fell in love with it is because I just scored 2 dozen of those cute little gourds for a PENNY each! You read that right! I am pretty sure they were supposed to be $1, but the sign said 1 cent. I checked with the produce manager and the cashier and they both said they were a penny, so I grabbed a ton! I bought a bunch of Indian corn as well. Three ears for...you guessed it...a PENNY!

If you want to make this cute centerpiece, but don't have a three tier server, Jennifer even solves that dilemma for you. Ikea has one for $14.99. I love Ikea almost as much as my 1 cent gourds.

And on that same note, Better Homes and Gardens:

Just because Halloween is over doesn't mean you have to put away the pumpkins...or the other gourds!

Gorgeous Ghosts

This weekend my hubby will be home for a few days. He won't be home again until Halloween and since he is the official pumpkin carver in our family we will be carving pumpkins and hoping it stays cool enough that they don't mold before Halloween actually comes. Oh the joys of living in the desert!

I always find ideas that I love and want to do, but since he does the carving, he does the choosing. Well, he and the kids choose. So hopefully I can talk one of them into these gorgeous ghosts from Parents.com:

Too bad you kind find pumpkins with cool stems like that in the grocery store! Yes, sadly we get our gourds from the grocery. No fun pumpkin patch to go to here.

Ghostly Gourds

Seriously, there are gourds that look like this:

Minus the black eyes of course, those were painted on by the people of BHG. I have never seen a white gourd like this, but if you have and you haven't made them into ghosts then all I can say is shame on you! But I will forgive you if you can tell me the name of the gourd so that I can beg the produce guy to get some in for me!
