Costco recently had some semi large maps on sale for a super price, but upon opening them, they were a little wrinkly looking (hence the super cheap price). The Boy has still really enjoyed it, but it wasn't quite what I was hoping it would be.
But now I am wondering if he will freak out if I cut it into pieces. I found this image at Apartment Therapy:

and I love the idea of having his map be a collection of map prints. A few pieces of MDF (that I already have cut to size if I could just remember what box they got packed away in) and some mod podge and I think I can take care of the wrinkly map problem.
Not sure how useful or educational the map will be at that point, but sometimes you have to sacrifice!

I really like the idea of cutting it up and mounting it. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
This exact project has been on my diy list for a good year and a half! I love it.
I just bought a map at a garage sale that I love, but am not sure what to do with it. I can't wait to try something like this.
Urban Outfitters has some cool options for HUGE maps... One is made out of scratch off stuff, so you can scratch off where you've been. Another is a huge piece of fabric you can hang on the wall or lay over a full size bed.
I love the idea of cutting it into pieces and making art out of it! So cool!!
Sidnie, I am going to have to check out Urban Outfitters. The scratch off map sounds fun!!
Uh oh. Just added this to my MUST HAVE list...
