Clay Pot Soldier

Jamie from C.R.A.F.T. posted about these soldiers she made with her mom a couple of years ago using clay pots:

At first I didn't realize how big they were, but then I saw this picture:

They would be cute using smaller post too, but these guys are amazing!  Who wouldn't want these cute toy soldiers keeping watch at their front door!

Tiered Terra Cotta Plant

I have always loved cute little terra cotta planters full of gorgeous greenery or flowers.  But living in Arizona all my life, what was in the pot usually stayed pretty for 2.5 seconds.  That is one thing that is better in Texas.  There is a lot of green and it seems to stick around for a while.  Which makes me love this idea from Positively Splendid even more:

Part planter, part house number, and completely cute, you can get the tutorial, that I found at Creation Corner,  HERE.

Outdoor Side Tables

I love this idea from This Young House:

They used a ceramic planter and a terracotta saucer, but put the saucer on top to create a side table. And you can pretty much find any color, size and style that you could possible want.

Pretty Pots

Pretty up some plain terra-cotta pots with paint:

The people at Ladies Home Journal painted regular terra-cotta gardening pots (the really inexpensive kind) with a coat of latex paint and then decorated them by adding designs in dots with a paint pen. Pretty easy and it makes a HUGE difference!

Terra Cotta Nativity

I love nativities. I have a gorgeous handmade set that my husband brought home from Chile, a little people nativity play set, and just about anything in between. This year I think I might have to add this to my collection.

What you need:
2 small terra-cotta pots
1 small terra-cotta saucer
Acrylic paint
Fine-point marker
3 wooden knobs, one smaller than the others
Tacky glue
Fabric
Embroidery floss
Raffia

What you do:

Paint the terra-cotta pots and saucer. Use a marker to draw faces on the wooden knobs. Let the paint dry.

Once the paint has dried, turn the pots upside down and use tacky glue to attach the knobs (heads) to the bottom of each pot. When the glue is dry, drape the fabric pieces around the top of each head and tie it in place with embroidery floss.

Form a swaddling blanket from another piece of cloth and glue in place. Glue the small head to the blanket and set it in the saucer on a bed of raffia.
