Fruit Topiary

Charmaine commented on one of my posts yesterday and left me a link to her fancy fruit topiaries. She started with cabbage:

And pounded dowels into it. She used floral foam to hold it up, but you can use more cabbage too. That is what they use for the edible arrangements you can order like these:

I think the cabbage holds up a little better than the foam. I also think the cabbage topiary is pretty darn cute. If you have a whole table full of fruits and veggie the cabbage topiary might look just fine. But back to the fruit topiaries.

She then used toothpicks to stick the fruit into the cabbage. Her top ended up being too heavy, so she took them apart and ended up with this:

and this:

Both gorgeous and perfect for a shower. Or an Easter tea party. Or about any get together that has girls involved! Now I just need someone to have a shower so that I can attempt to make one!

What cute ideas! I made something like the Edible Arrangement one time, but it was the off-season for fruit where we live, so it ended up costing me quite a bit more than if I had just ordered it. If you don't mind getting sticky and it's in-season, it's a lot of fun!

OK... you food bloggers and/or people who include food in their blogging are killing me... what is with the treats??? I am a slightly fat guy trying to lose weight and suddenly I discover food blogs (thanks to my wife - may I please do a shout out for her since she follows your blog? - http://notjustapowder.blogspot.com/) I know that is probably politically incorrect blogging and I will probably end up in the next Michael Moore movie for doing it, but I love her...

BACK TO THE FOOD... so tonight all I am coming across is treats... yummy goodness created by God so we could return to him in a more timely manner... anyways... I like your blog and will be trying to get the mrs to do some baking this weekend:)

I will give you credit... you did start with fruit :)

OH AND DONT RUIN THE BASEBALL CARDS... they could be worth money... my dad has some worth almost a $1,000 apiece... so make sure you sell the good ones or put them away before making a table... I will stop rambling now.
