Cookie Swap: Sugar Cookies

Every day between now and Christmas we are going to have our very own Cookie Swap! I am going to post a new cookie recipe here on my blog! If you have a recipe that you would like to post on your blog, email me the link and I will make sure to link you in one of my Cookie Swap posts!

You can email them to me at lorieblogs (at) gmail (dot) com or you can leave me a comment on this post!

I am going to start with my FAVORITE sugar cookie recipe!

What you need (for the Cookie)
1 c. butter-softened
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 T. cream
1 t. vanilla
1 /2 t. baking soda
1/4 t. baking powder
4 c. flour

What you do:
Combine first 3 ingredients together, then add others one at a time. Mix well.
Roll out on floured pastry mat to desired thickness (leave them thick, no need to refrigerate!)
cut into shapes and bake 12 min at 350. They will still be soft, but will begin to brown around the edges.

What you need (for the frosting):
1 stick butter
3 1/2 c. powdered sugar
2 T. cream
1 t. vanilla
food coloring

What you do:
Beat butter until creamy. Scrape bowl and add 2 1/2 c. powdered sugar, cream and vanilla. Beat until combined. Continue to add powdered sugar until desired consistency.

These are YUMMY and so soft!

Happy baking!

Thank you! I can't wait to try it! By cream, is that like half and half?

whipping cream. half and half will work too. milk even, but cream is better! ;D

Yummy! Do you have a guess as to how many cookies one "batch" makes? My husband is a youth pastor and the staff wives are responsible for bringing 4 dozen cookies for a reception on Sunday. These would be perfect! Also, does the icing harden like royal icing does? Or does it stay soft? I know...lots of questions. :)

my recipe hardly counts. It involves a tube and a butter knife. :)

Great idea.....but it is going to make me really miss not having a working oven this holiday season!!!

I'm kind of a cookie Nazi for my cookie swap. I don't allow chocolate chip cookies or no bakes.

Sugar cookies are in though!

MJ, it varies a LOT on how thick you make them and how big you cut them out. I make pretty big and thick cookies (way too big for a reception) and I get almost 2 dozen.

I would make small circles (like silver dollar size) and if you double the recipe you should have more than enough AND some to taste! ;D

Oh, and the icing stays soft. Nice and yummy soft cookies with creamy frosting!! If you want it to harden use more powdered sugar/less liquid

Thank you for the awesome recipe. I've been looking for a good sugar cookie recipe for a while!

I'll send you one sometime tomorrow. It's a spice cookie with a cooked butter glaze. It's good, I promise!
