Christmas Traditions

One thing I love about Christmas is that it is full of traditions. Traditions to me are like a big thick thread that stitch a family together. They are the basis of a lot of great memories. They are the good stuff. I try to make as many traditions, Christmas and otherwise, as I can with my kids.

This is one of our favorite Christmas traditions:

This little red cup from Starbucks holds their super yummy peppermint hot chocolate. Topped with whipped cream and peppermint sprinkles. It is our companion each and every night that we go out and look at Christmas lights. And that is a lot of nights. We pile into our car, drive through the Starbucks drive through, and then head out to find some lights that we haven't enjoyed yet.

Sometimes (if we have drained our Starbucks budget) we make the hot chocolate at home. If you get it really hot and stir it with a candy cane, the candy cane will melt and you will have some yummy peppermint hot chocolate of your own. The kids love helping make anything in the kitchen, so that adds an extra element to the fun.

What is one of your favorite traditions? I am always looking for a new on to add to our family!

I love peppermint cocoa. I always stick a mini candy cane into each mug of the mint lovers. Yummmy!

I always read "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" to my kids. I always cry at the end. I'm such a sap.

It is delicious! I haven't had one yet, as it's not in my budget this year!! Maybe my mom will take me to Starbucks for Christmas!

I will have to try this Thursday. I try to go by Starbucks before Bible study.

It's sad but we really don't have any traditions. :o(

Oh! Carmel Apple Cider! I am going to have to try that!!

Rachel! Starbucks is SO yummy, but you can make it at home just as easily (and a lot cheaper!!) Snag a candy cane the next time you see them somewhere! And use milk instead of water to make the packet hot chocolate!

Hmmmm...never tried stirring the hot chocolate with a candy cane. That might be good. My husband said that Chick-Fil-A has an awesome holiday milkshake (Chocolate Peppermint) that is to die for! They've been sold out whenever I've tried to go.

We do the same thing with the Christmas lights...drive through a new neighborhood and try to find the insane Christmas houses!

I love their Peppermint Mocha Twist! We do the hot cocoa/coffee thing also when we go out to look at lights

OH I am So glad to know that is out now. I LOVE that one too! Usually I don't enjoy Starbucks too much, but that one is yummy!

As for the pic Standin' on the Corner, I have NO idea. That blog is for my husbands family and as you can see, not updated too often.

Mmmmm, Hot Chocolate during this season is WONDERFUL...

If it could just drop below 60 degrees here, I might be able to enjoy some.

My favorite family tradition we did when I was a kid was sleeping outside on Christmas Eve... You can do that in AZ.

Now I know it was a ploy by my parents to get us out of the way of their preperations... but we really thought we would catch Santa.

That sounds really good right now!

This tradition is from my husband's family... we always do hor'doevres on Christmas Eve. It's so fun and the kids get a big kick out of only eating with their fingers. Well, except for the cheese soup.
