Father's Day Wreath

Tie Wreath from Goodhousekeeping

A couple of years ago my husband, who is very picky about his ties, ventured on to Ebay to buy a lot of them from one of his favorite retailers.  They were a steal, but because of the size of the lot the purchase cost us a couple hundred dollars.

When the ties arrived my husband realized that he had accidentally ordered the wrong style. (You knew this was coming right?) They were all skinny ties that he would never wear.  The Ebay seller wouldn't accept a return and we were never able to resell them, so we still have them sitting in a bag on my closet shelf.  I am WAY too cheap to throw them out, so I will have to find a good use for them.

That is where this cute wreath from Goodhousekeeping might come in.  It was actually an idea for a Christmas wreath, and although it won't ever make it into my Christmas decoration box, it would be fun to try for Father's Day.

Here is the how to from Goodhousekeeping:

Turn Dad's old ties into door decor. You'll need a 14-inch wire wreath form from a crafts shop and 19 ties. Cut all ties but one into 15-inch lengths. Position the narrow end of first cut tie, front side up, on a section of the wreath. Wrap tie around form until pointed end is positioned as shown, hiding the rolled tie; secure with pins. Repeat, overlapping ties slightly. Flip wreath over; sew rolled-up ties to the backs of points. Pin on the uncut, bowed tie.
If you don't have a stash of ties lying around, you can pick some up at the thrift store, or if you want to be able to reuse them, you could always just use them to make a garland instaed of a wreath.  Like this idea, only tied like a necktie around the rope.

I've also seen tutorials turning ties into headbands for little girls. They were pretty cute. It's not Father's Day related, but in case you need more projects for all those ties...

soooooo cute! dont have any ties and dont dare venture into a thrift shop to buy some. (i'd come out with much more than ties.)

but i have plenty of material scraps to make mock ties. i bet i could even use scrapbook paper to make this project.
