I stopped at not one, but two Dollar Trees yesterday to get some of their fun (and SUPER CHEAP) Halloween items. They didn't have nearly as much stuff as they had last year, but I did find the skeleton hands!
I wanted to take a picture tonight so I could show you my finds, but it is late and I am too lazy to actually upload a picture from my camera, so you get this 'spooky' picture taken from my phone.
On the far left is a 'garland' (for lack of a better word) that is bloody gauze. It is pretty crazy looking in real life. I bunched it up and put it in one of my apothecary jars.
Here is another picture with a little more light so you can see what I am talking about:
On the far left is a 'garland' (for lack of a better word) that is bloody gauze. It is pretty crazy looking in real life. I bunched it up and put it in one of my apothecary jars.
In the middle is a little skeleton that was part of another garland. He is hanging inside another apothecary jar.
And last but not least, on the right, I bought the skeleton hands from my post yesterday and a full skeleton that I broke apart and all the pieces got dumped in a third jar.
I have more arranging to do, but I was just so excited that I found the hands that I wanted to share it with you. And the best part is it was all for under $5. It would have been under $4, but I took Toots with me. She has hit the special age that is 2 AND she hadn't had a nap today, so when she became overly attached to a doll from the dollar store I felt my sanity was worth the extra dollar.

Love these creative and inexpensive ideas. Thanks so much for sharing.
LOVE this idea. Must. get. apothecary. jars. And dollar store skeletons.
So it may cost me a little more than $4.
I like this! The bones are much creepier in the apothecary jar... why? Have you ever put a head of cauliflower in a glass bowl or hurricane lamp with colored water? It really looks like a brain.
Oh, I just posted a new project from Martha on my blog. It's not Halloween themed, but I think you'd like it anyway.
I like the center jar w/ the skeleton just standing or dangling
in there! lol I hear about getting the $ store baby doll,it has to be like the one we got! lol For that reason as well!
Natalie,
Totally understand spending the extra dollar!
I may just have to head over there today to see if I can outfit our Halloween party inexpensively!
Love this, it really IS spooky!! I also have alot of Dollar Tree Halloween decor, including the skeleton garland. You can see how I used mine here http://tsbdecor.blogspot.com/2009/10/dining-at-killer-cafe.html
Have a great weekend!
Your ideas are so cute. I love it. Can't wait to see more ideas from you!!!!!!
Oh my gosh!! I've found about 10 different awesome ideas that I'm going to try. I'm adding you to my Google Reader. Can't wait to see the next project!
What a great idea! I need to figure out what I want to make for Halloween.
Went to the dollar store last week, and came home with nothing like that! we need a new dollar store i think. but I did grab some tombstones, skull heads, and am making a cool grave yard out in my front yard, then a coughin (sp? lol) in the middle of it all. that is if we can ever get over this dumb pig flu!
I bought the sketeton garlands as well. BUT thought that they would be fun for a dinner party that I'm having. I'm going to wrap them separately in jute on the outside of the nakin/silverware rolls.
How did you get your skeleton to stand up? I LOVE it!!!
Looks great! I too picked up some of the hands today at the Dollar Tree. What a wonderful store! I had to stop myself from buying some of the Christmas stuff they had out. :)
Thanks to your post yesterday, I headed over to Dollar Tree first thing this morning and came home with a couple bags of those hands!!! AWESOME! I almost bought the skeleton garland too but had to put it back (along with a few other goodies) in exchange for craft supplies for my preschooler.
Thanks so much for the tips!
I love it! I love even more how you combined them and made it your own! Well done!
