More Headboards

After wasting two hours online looking at master bedrooms the only think I found that I liked was this tutorial from BHG on how to make this headboard:

using two doors and some trim:

But the chances of me finding two identical used doors is pretty unlikely, and a new door would cost me $100 each...so that probably isn't going to happen. Not to mention that there is a vent under my bed (intake for the AC) so I couldn't use the idea unless I moved the bed to a different wall...which I don't think is going to happen.

At least I like the mismatched nightstands.

I think I am going to narrow down my master bedroom searching to just new bedding for now. Hopefully I will find something that I will fall in love with!

Oh I really like this! Doors can be hard to come by though; have you checked Craigslist?? Sometimes people are doing remodeling and have a pile to get rid of. Or a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store? They have good deals sometimes!

I wish I had been more creative with my bedroom set when I got married. We have the standard matching set and this is much cuter!

You are my hero!! I've been trying to come up with an inexpensive option for my bedroom that doesn't look too shabby. $100 per door is much cheaper than the bed that I've been looking at. I bet my dad can trim it up with some molding.

Here is an idea for a headboard I really like. It uses those big chunky picture frames. You paint them and hang them really close together like tiles. So cute. This is a segment from a local morning show. Check it out, I thought it was great. They suggest painting them with magnetic paint or chalk board paint, but that didn't really float my boat. Take a look, there is a video at the top right of the page, just wait for it to load.

Couldn't you just cut one of the doors in half and put them together side by side. It wouldn't go all the way to the floor, but that's okay right? Then it wouldn't cover the A/C vent.

I love this idea. Thanks!!

You may not believe this, but I have been having the same 'search' going on here. And having no luck in deciding what I want.
My one requirement is it needs to be tall (on the wall) and cushioned so I can sit up comfortably when I'm reading in bed. The hubby has told me he will make me something that I can cover.
That's probably what I'll end up doing.
I can't wait to see what you come up with.

I can tell you step-by-step instructions on how to make your own! (Using fabric, batting and plywood.) Let me know if you want to know! :) The doors are fab, this would look incredible with two salvage doors or something...OH, Daisy had a great idea too!!

Call me. I know a place where they carry used building materials and they always have awesome doors!

Lorie- you might be surprised about finding 2 doors alike! I went to a yard sale last summer and picked up 2 for $10 each. I didn't buy them intending to use them as headboards as we needed something to replace the pocket sliders upstairs but was redoing one of the guestrooms and they work perfectly for now though they are not permanent. If you will go to the right hand side of my blog page you will see a pic of the door headboard and you can click on it and it will take you to that room tour.

Daisy, that is a good idea, if I could find a door that was symmetrical. Hmmmmm.

I just found a Havitat Re-Store by me, so I am going to make a trip this weekend hopefully!

(Here from BSU) That is so cool! Of course we bought a whole bedroom suit last year, but if we ever need another one, I would like to try that idea out.

Thanks for the great tip and great pictures.

That headboard is amazing! I agree about craigslist, also freecycle.com is a good source, you can list things that you need with your phone number and local people will call you if they have something you are looking for -- and it is FREE.

Have a great night!

I love this idea. I need a headboard for my guest room- this might be the way to go!

Stardust Building Supplies is another great place to find used home items. Have you ever been there?

My headboard is an old door, turned lenght wise and we nailed 1x4's to the back to make it the right height... I love it... If you want to see a picture let me know, same idea, just different!
