Baby Books, Tiny Tales, and a Glass Jar

I don't have a baby book for any of my kids. *gasp* The horror! I know! I think I have one page filled out for The Boy, and that is about it! The only reason I remember the time of day that Lou La was born is because my OB GYN gave me one of these:

Sad, I know! And Toots. Well lets be honest! She is the third child. I just make stuff up! Kidding! Sort of!

I saw this on droolicious today.

It is called Tiny Tales and it is a kit with little cards that your jot down info about your babies first year. It is a really cute idea, but it is $30. I am sure you can make something similar for a lot less, but what I do love about it is that it reminded me of a really great baby shower gift I saw given at I don't remember whose shower.

It was this:
A glass jar. It had a really cute pink ribbon tied around the top (because the baby was a girl. I do remember that much) and inside were little rectangular pieces of cute scrapbook paper and a cute girly pen. The idea was that anytime something happened, when a milestone was reached, you just wrote it down on a piece of paper, folded it up and tossed it in the jar.

All the info was there. To put in a book later or not. You could just pull out the little scraps of paper and read them if you want to!!

I only wish that I would have seen this idea BEFORE I had kids! But honestly, the idea still works with older kids. For milestones or for funny memories that you want to remember. I actually have a spiral notebook in my nightstand drawer that I right down funny stories about my kids that I want to remember. But I guess that is what a blog is for too! but there are some things you might not want to share with the rest of the world, so get a spiral notepad. Or a jar.

I do the same thing with an empty pitcher by our kitchen table. Whenever the girls do or say something fun or memorable I jot it down on any scrap of paper that is nearby, date it and drop it inside. I'll scrapbook them later but at least they're written down!!

That is actually a really great idea. And totally doable. You could also use it as a tool for praising your child and encouraging you other children to participate (by writing their own notes to each other...just make sure they are nice).

And I saw a really fun way to label clear glass jars like laundry soap, flour, sugar, etc. Get those "Hello, my name is..." tags from an office store and slap that baby on there. Fun and functional.

PS. I have 1 baby book for all 3 of my kids...no way I was threepeating that process. And it's not even complete.

never too late to start, Lo! You may be sad some day that you can't remember those little details. Better yet, come scrap with me and Toni tonight!
