How To Install A Cabin Air Filter [FRAM Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter]

I live in a house full of allergy sufferers. Not your mild sniffle and itchy eye allergies either. I am talking swollen eyes, stuffy nose, take multiple allergy medicines and still miss school type allergy sufferers. I know there is nothing I can do to prevent my kids from coming into contact with dirt and pollen, unless I want to have them live in a bubble during the spring, but I do take reasonable precautions to limit the effects of their allergies. We replace the air filters in our home monthly, they shower every night before they get into bed, we stay in on windy days, and we keep the windows and doors to the house shut.
One thing I have to admit I never thought about was the cabin air filter in my car. The cabin air filter filters out the air that enters your car through the ventilation system. We owned our previous mini van for almost 10 years and never once did I change the cabin air filter. When I learned that FRAM Fresh Breeze cabin air filters filter out 98% of the dust, dirt, and allergens that enter through the ventilation system, I knew I wanted to give it a try.

I don't do any of the maintenance on my own vehicle, so I didn't know how what to expect in the way of installation. FRAM® offers installation videos/instructions online that are easy to find. You just enter the year, make, and model in the drop down menus. Because my car is new, they did not have a video available, but a quick search of the internet uncovered one. For my 2013 Nissan Quest the installation is super easy. Watching the video took longer than replacing the cabin air filter.

I wish I had the cabin air filter from my old minivan. I can imagine it was pretty gross. We have had this van for a month and you can already see the dust that was in the old filter. I can only imagine what got THROUGH this cabin air filter. The cabin air filter that came with the car when it was new is much flimsier and lighter weight than the new FRAM cabin air filter I installed.

Did you know that the air inside your car can be six times dirtier than the air outside? It makes sense since we often recirculate the same air that is already in our car. The dirt and allergens come in and have nowhere to go! So your best bet is to keep them from coming in through your vents!! If you look in your car service manual, you will find the recommendation for changing cabin air filters. My car recommends it be replaced every 15,000 miles. Is it time to change your cabin air filter?

If you want to give a FRAM Fresh Breeze cabin air filter a try, you can download a $3 rebate here. With the FRAM Fresh Breeze filter you also get the extra added bonus of ARM&HAMMER® baking soda to help remove outside odors entering through the ventilation system. This will come in handy during the late spring when the number of skunks in our area always seems to skyrocket!

To reduce allergy symptoms I like to keep the house free of dust and pet dander so I dust and sweep regularly, change out air filters of course, and stay away from blankets, pillows, and fabrics that have loose threads or fibers that would irritate our sinuses :)

Well I learned something new today. I never knew we could replace filters in our cars. I'm going to look into this for my truck. :-). I use essential oils to treat my allergies. I'm the only person in my house who suffers. We also replace are filters in our house every month.
