Jenny Craig Review Part 3 [$100 Visa Gift Card Giveaway]

*** I was given the opportunity in September to try out Jenny Craig for four weeks, including food, free of charge.  This is the third and final post in the series.  You can read about the journey from the beginning and enter the $100 Visa Gift Card giveaways on my first and second post.***

Today marks the end of my four weeks.  In that time my kids started school and dance and football.  I worked and went on a trip with my husband and stayed in a cabin full of junk food with my in-laws.  We celebrated Labor Day and attended a birthday party, went to the movies and prepared and ate meals  at least 84 times.  Four weeks equates to a lot of opportunities to try out what I have been learning from Jenny Craig.

Before I started this plan, dieting was always about something coming up.  I want to lose 20 lbs before a wedding in 3 months.  For the first time I am focusing on the end result, not an event.  And because of that I don't feel the need to force myself to the gym every day for 90 minutes, which only makes me feel like I deserve to reward myself with a snack anyways.  Instead I am planning on this taking a while, sort of like paying of a loan or saving money to buy a new house.  Big goals deserve plans and plans take time.

And I think it is the plan behind Jenny Craig that makes it so successful.  Your consultant helps you plan out your food.  Your consultant helps you plan out your exercise for the week.  You plan your week and your consultant helps you plan how to make it successful.

I averaged just over a 2 lb loss every week.  It doesn't make for a dramatic before and after picture, but I can honestly say it has made a dramatic difference in the way I feel.  And I know it will only continue to get better.   And hopefully next year I will have a great before and after picture to show you.  For now, I am happy with the 10 lbs that I am no longer carrying around.  I even decided to let a friend of mine take some pictures of me for my blog.

So that is my little success from the last four weeks.  I can't wait to hear about yours.  Tell me about a positive healthy change you have made in your life and you will be entered to win a $100 Visa Gift Card from Jenny Craig and BlogHer.

The sweepstakes will run from 10/24-11/6.  Check out BlogHer Prizes and Promotions section for more chances to win.

You can find out more about Jenny Craig on their website, on Facebook, and over on Twitter.

*** Disclaimer***
I was given the opportunity to try out Jenny Craig for four weeks, including food, free of charge.  The opinions shared in this post are based on my experience with Jenny Craig over that four weeks.  All opinions are my own.  The average Jenny Craig client is expected to lose 1-2 pounds per week, which is a healthy and normal rate to lose weight.

Ooh, I get the first comment! :) I've been trying to work in 10 minutes of yoga in the mornings (I found a video on netflix streaming that has about 5 different 10 minute yoga workouts). You look great in the picture!

Congratulations on your victory! 8 lbs doesn't sound like a lot, but it really adds up! And when you think about it, if you were able to keep up that pace (you might plateau, which is normal), you'd be at the 20 lbs loss in only 6 more weeks! That's amazing! Good luck on making your goal. Your picture looks great so keep it up!

That last comment was just me telling you that I think you're awesome. I went back and read about the sweepstakes after. I'm trying to work on portion control. This morning when I was late and didn't have time for my eggs, I ate half a bowl of cereal instead of the full bowl that I normally eat. I'm hoping to keep that up so that I can lose some of this weight I've been gaining lately! Thanks for the inspiration!

Lorie, what a great picture of you! It's good to hear of the positive changes you are making. I always have felt that if I could get a handle on the planning part of things, I'd be far more successful in my own changes.

I have been eating more vegetables and have cut out soda and caffeine. It's a hard thing, but I've been seeing the results so I'm encouraged to keep at it.

I've made a few changes to my diet and exercise habits recently and they're really starting to pay off. For me, it wasn't about weight, but about my health and sanity. I do way to much an as a result, my mood and immune system suffer. I started by taking vitamins, then made it a point to schedule at least two serious workouts a week, with smaller amounts of cardio when I can get it in, and I started eating out less and eating in more. Being in control of exactly what's in my food has made a huge difference. They're small changes but when put together as I gradually implemented them, they encouraged me to keep going, made me feel better, and reduced my stress level.

Congratulations to you!

I am following a free, online program called Sparkpeople. I highly encourage you to check it out. For me, the most valuable benefit is meal tracking. I keep track of everything I eat on the website, and it allows me to gain a better understanding of calorie count, fat count, carb count, and more. At first, it was a hassle to track everything, but within a week or two, it just became routine.

I had a lot of really great success--losing just about 10 pounds per month--and that was without incorporating much exercise into my route.

Unfortunately, I had a health set-back, having been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease about three months ago which is being treated by steroids. As anyone who has experience with steroids knows, they aren't friendly drugs for people trying to lose weight! So now, I'm working on maintaining my healthy eating habits as much as possible--even though I'm not currently seeing any physical results--with the hopes that as soon as I can be taken off of steroids, my body will relatively easily transition into the pre-steroid routine.

And, I'll hopefully be able to start an exercise program soon, too! I need a doctor's approval to spend time in a gym environment, due to the lots and lots of germs that exist there and my low-functioning immune system. But, my fingers are crossed!

Best of luck to everyone on this journey--no matter how big or small!

I've been trying to be healthier in another department--sleep (although trust me, I could improve my eating habits and have been meaning to try!). Lately, I've been trying to establish better sleep habits and winding down before bed by drinking tea. I've read a few places now that not sleeping enough contributes to overeating/eating less healthfully, so I figure it's a double whammy if I can improve on my sleep, lol.
