Ghosts of Monte Cristo Sandwich

For years the tradition in my husbands house growing up was grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner on Halloween.  Four marriages, seven grandchildren, and one birthday later it transformed into a super fun family party food like bat wings and witch fingers.

This year I planned to go back to something simple like grilled cheese sandwiches, but I think we might have to make Martha's Ghost of Monte Christo Sandwiches that I saw on A Little Great:

If you don't know what a Monte Cristo is than you are in for a treat.  It is cheese, ham, and turkey grilled with a french toast batter.  It may sound odd, but it is DIVINE!  It is even better when it is deep fried, but this way is easier to make.

Take some yummy soft potato bread and make a sandwich with chese, turkey, ham, and another slice of cheese.  Cut it out with a ghost cookie cutter and then dip it in your standard french toast batter (a couple of eggs and some milk with a touch of salt).  Toast it on a skillet that has been greased with some butter. and you are good to go.

It is actually really good lightly dusted with powdered sugar or dipped in blackberry or raspberry jam.  Again, I know that sounds weird, but it is really good!

Martha served hers with tomato soup, and you need to get yourself a squeeze bottle and use it to make a web with sour cream on the top of the soup.

I will have to dig up my mother-in-laws homemade tomato soup recipe because it is GOOD!

If you want to use Martha's recipe, you can get that HERE and there is a video you can watch too.  I cannot even tell you how excited I am to make these fun Ghost sandwiches!

YUM! Sounds so good. I forgot how much I love Monte Cristos (because I only ever order them at restaurants).

Wani, the first time I ever had one was at Disneyland at the Blue Bayou Restaurant. My hubby and I split one every time we go!

There is a restaurant in town that has them and they are so good!

I love Monte Cristos, but I have never made them myself. There is only one restaraunt here, that I know of that serves them, and they have a honey-mustard dipping sauce to go with it.......SO YUMMY!!!
