Well this year I am going to pretend like mine look like these apples from Country Living:
Oh pretty! I thought the black and orange was chocolate, but is is raffia. Which makes more sense. Chocolate would melt on your hands and make an even bigger mess. But a girl can dream, right?
Here is their recipe for the caramel, but they didn't give any tips for the raffia sticks. I guess I am going to have to figure that out myself with some raffia and glue.

These look so yummy! I got all excited about making caramel apples last year but it never happened. Thanks for the real caramel recipe. I don't like melting down the square ones nearly as much. Plus I can think of all kinds of other delicious things to dip in the extra caramel.
The apples look gorgeous, but I want that wooden cake stand! I've recently become obsessed.
so cute...i can hardly wait for fall...i wouldn't use glue on the sticks though...i am pretty sure if you wrap the two colors around, twisted , then went back the opposite way that would work...i think i'll have to make some too! i love your blog

Oh those look good! Lately we've just been cutting up apples and drizzling them with homemade carmel. Love it! Have you made carmel from boiling sweetened condensed milk? It makes a yummy caramel...
D'oh! I thought those sticks were made of chocolate too. In fact, we had some chocolate wafers that looked just like that, and I was wondering how on earth they got those (highly breakable) wafers into the hard apples.
*sigh* now I know: not chocolate.
I say car-mel too. These are so intimidatingly gorgeous. Mine would never come out as cute. What a great goal though. I don't think I've ever made them for my kids. Repost this 'round Halloween ok? =)
Oooo these look so good AND pretty! I love that your couragous enough to post about fall/halloween things already!
I love caramel apples (I have the same problem as you with the spelling, and I pronounce it the same way, funny...). I like Mrs. Prindall's... She puts everything on it: chocolate, chips, sprinkles, mmmm... I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!!!
