See this picture from BHG:
Look on the table. Do you see the jar of crayons? The jar like this:
I am trying to decide if this is a good idea. We have about a bazillion crayons in our house. And they would look really cute in the jar. For like 5 seconds. Then I am worried it would get all messy with crayon pieces and papers. And the jar would get pretty heavy with all of those crayons. But it looks so pretty in the picture!
Talk me out of it. Or into it. Which ever. Just don't leave me undecided.

Don't forget that your beautiful transparent jar (the part that makes this so cute) will be colored by crayons from the inside and look all smudgy and stuff.
That would be me trying to talk you out if it. ;0)
btw I'm pretty new to your blog and LOVE how you post so often and with such cute ideas. You are on my favorites right after I check my email and I'm never disappointed!
The fact that the jar is glass - with a lid - is enough to talk me out of it. My husband had to go for stiches a few years ago after he fumbled with a lidded glass candy jar at work.
I wish our playroom looked even 10% like that photo - but for now I will have to settle for rubbermaid boxes for crayons and our huge IKEA cubby storage!
I love it, but my boys would break it. No doubt about it.
Been there done that! About a million pieces of glass and a 100 crayons picked up later--Not a good idea. It's cute though---for about 10 minutes
That is ssssooo cute and I would not do it. When my kids were little, it would have been an accident waiting to happen.
Cute, colorful, but definately not practical. If you really want to see those crayons maybe try acrylic... it will still get messy though... We have all our crayons in a big cardboard can, like the ones left over from hot chocolate and then covered in cute scrapbook paper... my 23 month old can carry it around and take the lid on and off by herself. Just an idea.
I keep my crayons in a similar jar that I found at Walmart. What I like about it is it's the old fashioned candy jar that is tilted, so it's perfect for their little hands reaching in. It also has a metal lid, so you don't have to worry about chipping the lid!
I also want to mention that I do not keep it out within reach for my kids. When we have coloring time I get it out for them and watch with supervision.
I like it. We have ours in an icecream bucket. I'm thinking this would look much nicer.
Cute look, but not for kid-related items. Too easy to get knocked off the table and broken!
Hey, I am having a little 100th post GIVEAWAY over at my blog. I'd love it if you and all your readers could stop by. . .

We've been using a glass canister jar for about a year now. Keeps ALL the crayons in one place... and is stored above our fridge. It's only brought out when I'm working in the kitchen and the kids are coloring at the table. I love it... better than 3 different crayon boxes floating around....
I would be afraid the jar would break then with little hands not so pretty anymore
I use flower pots to hold our kids markers, pencils, pens, etc. But this is an equally wonderful idea!
I have THE idea!
Find a picture/graphic online. One which show crayolas all lined up perfectly. Place it into the glass container so that it is seen from the outside. Then, you place your real crayons inside where they will always "appear" to be in perfect order. Remember a previous Blog post of yours where you showed photos placed into glass containers?? It's the same concept. What do you think?
lagirl, that is a pretty great idea.
I am not worried about the older two breaking the jar, but it might be a problem for the younger one when she gets a little bigger.
And I love the old fashioned candy jar idea (with the metal lid) because I could see the lid getting broken!!
Thanks ladies!!
I say do it! I think I'm gonna....
I like the crayons in the apothecary jars. Very cute and colorful.
i think it would be cute, i just wouldn't want kids handling a heavy glass jar. but that's jsut me i have a big scar on my face from handling glass as a kid!! ahah
Not a good idea, unless you're going to keep it on top of the fridge. I finally got rid of one of my jars like that after someone broke the lid. Too heavy for kids to mess with regularly.
