A rational person would give them away. Donate them. Toss them. Something. I have them taking up closet space, drawer space, and even sitting in a basket that wanders around my house homeless. I have SERIOUS issues with giving away sentimental things. But that doesn't keep me from being aggravated at the space they take and the lack of usefulness.
But I have a plan!!
See this quilt from Martha:
picture from Martha Stewart
It is a baby blanket made from knit sweaters. I don't have any white knit sweaters to make a baby blanket with...but I have a ton of baby blankets to make a quilt with! That way they will only take up one or two blankets worth of space in my linen closet and they will be USEFUL!
And if it goes well I will have to make a quilt from all of Hubby's old baseball shirts! That will clean out an entire top shelf of his side of the closet!
And I am not letting the fact that I have never made a quilt before in my life stop me! You shouldn't either!!

great quilt...PS, you're winning, but just barely!
I have been planning on doing this for a while! I have saved my favorite outfits from each of my children and plan on incorporating pieces from each somewhere in the quilt.
My "grandmother" used to make clothes for me, my brother and my mother. When I had Caleb, she made me the most wonderful quilt using scraps from all the clothes she had made us. I cried for days and have put it up so my children can't destroy it!
I have flannel baby blankets sitting around just for that reason....hope I get them made into a quilt sometime soon!
I love that sweater quilt too! It is gorgeous.
Just voted for you!
Ashlee! That is amazing!
I really hope I can get it made this year too!
Surely your kids will want some of those, and it sounds like you have enough to make each of them a quilt and one for you two! You go, girl!
What a beautiful quilt!
And I voted for all my blog friends, using several computers at home and work. Good luck!
What a great way to use all of your blankets. I hope you can do it!
you have a beautiful, clean, site. http://momsjustwannahavefun.blogspot.com
LOL. Were we separated at birth? I have bins full of all my kids old clothes--baby clothes that I plan to someday turn into baby quilts for THEIR babies--denim quilts out of old jeans for when they go away to college (if they go, and if not for their first apartment), and quilts, and more quilts. LMAO! I don't know how to quilt either, but it is on my "to learn someday" list, and it doesn't matter if it was a name-brand outfit that could fetch some money at a second-hand store either-I can't part with it. I do donate anything that I am able to part with though. lol.
I so want a denim quilt!! For outside!! One of these days!!
Sounds amazing!
I like that courage...go ahead and make it.
Betsy, I am really good at saying I am going to do crafty things! ;D
That's a great idea. Thank goodness we only have about 3 blanklets but I don't want to let them go either. I hope all is well. I have missed coming around daily like I used to be able to.
I have a problem with sentimental things too.
