Snowman Hot Chocolate

Hot chocolate is one of our must have treats once the weather gets cold.  From the first cup we sip while driving around to look at Christmas lights, to the large batch we make to keep everyone warm while setting off fireworks on New Year's Eve, we consume a lot of hot cocoa during the winter.

You can serve our favorite hot chocolate dressed up like frosty.  All you need is whipped cream, some chocolate chips for the eyes and mouth, an orange spice drop nose, and our very favorite, very simple  homemade hot chocolate recipe.

Homemade Hot Chocolate

What You Need:

2 cups half and half
2 cups milk
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon

What You Do:

Combine 1 cup of milk, cocoa powder, cinnamon, powdered sugar and vanilla.  Whisk over medium low heat until the mixture is combined and simmering.

Slowly add in the remaining milk and half and half.  Stir, remove from heat, and serve.

This is the perfect recipe to experiment with different hot chocolate flavors.  We love to replace the cinnamon with a few peppermint candies around Christmas time.  A little salt and carmel flavored creamer is good too!  If you use a sweetened creamer, you can reduce the amount of powdered sugar you include in the original recipe.

Make a batch and let everyone experiment with their favorite flavor combinations!
