Spray Painted Shoes

Remember in the 90s when you would get your shoes dyed to match your prom dress or bridesmaid dress. Well that was so 20 years ago!  In 2010 if you want your shoes a certain color you pull out a can of spray paint:

Yes, you heard me correctly.  Those cute blue shoes used to be black until See Kate Sew took a can of spray paint to them.

Dana from Made did it too.  More than once:

And so did Grosgrain Fabulous:

And This Thrifty House:

You really can spray paint anything!

Does the spray paint chip? Because I've been thinking of doing that to a pair of rubber boots I got.

Jessika,

I saw the yellow ones that Dana has in person quite a while after she had painted them. They didn't chip, but the paint had started cracking a little. Nothing that looked terrible, but I am guessing you could just sand and give them another coat.

I wouldn't do them to an expensive pair of shoes or boots, but they would be fun for a thrift store find. You can even make new insides for them like the first pair.

My DH spraypainted some shoes to match his Halloween costume. It started to flake off right away. So I told him to try using primer first. It worked!

Oddly enough, my dad was ahead of his time. When I was 5, I had a tap recital and my mom wanted my black shoes to match my gold & green (and very tacky! LOL) outfit so she had my dad spraypaint them gold. This was 35 years ago. =)

We did this at Halloween too! My daughter needed red ruby slippers for her Dorothy costume, so we took some we had around the house, spray painted them red, and glued on the glitter. They turned out wonderful and didnt chip or lose glitter at all!

So cool! I will be needing a pair of red heels and have always wanted pink! Never thought of this, so I'll be picking up a cheapo pair of shoes and testing this out!! Yay!

Thanks! Yes, I have a pair of thrift store rubber boots. They're very utilitarian (which is ok, but), but I want to make them look like the cute, folded-over-top-houndstooth-fabric boots that have a cute little buckle. Kind of like these, but with painted boots on the main part and a flipped over houndstooth fabric on the top. http://s7.thisnext.com/media/largest_dimension/773CE1BB.jpg

I'm likely not describing this well. I'll show you a photo if it all works (when I eventually get around to another project)....
