Sunburn Remedies
I am not going to point fingers, but someone stayed outside for over 4 hours today and didn't reapply sunblock, so there are four uncomfortable people in one hotel room. SO MUCH FUN!
I am wishing I was at home so that I could try a few of these remedies:
.
Cornstarch - Add enough water to cornstarch to make a paste.
Vegetable slices - Some people get relief from thin slices of raw cucumber or potato, he adds. They feel cool and may help reduce inflammation on small areas. Apple slices may also work.
Lettuce - Boil lettuce leaves in water. Strain, then let the liquid cool several hours in the refrigerator. Dip cotton balls into the liquid and gently press or stroke onto irritated skin.
Yogurt - Plain yogurt is both cooling and soothing, she says. Apply to all sunburned areas. Rinse off in a cool shower, then gently pat skin dry.
Tea bags - If your eyelids are burned, apply tea bags soaked in cool water to decrease swelling and help relief pain.

Oh no! I got a bad sunburn the day before yesterday. I have been trying to stay out of the sun to stop all of these wrinkles! My sister said to put vinegar on it. She said it burns, but it helps. I haven't been brave enough to try it. I feel for ya!
aloe and lots of it just like i would use on any other burn. and considering that i'm so pale i practically glow in the dark this is a subject with which i am familiar.
Oh no, I would go out and get a ton of Aloe and slather it on. Hopefully everyone will be comfortable soon!
We are pasty people around here and it happened to us a few weeks ago. I suggest reading the report on sunscreens they just put out. There is a link on my blog on the post called Oh My Sun.
We just heard eating blueberries helps. Something about the antioxidents.
Good luck! I am so sorry. I feel your pain.
Living in sunny Australia - sunburn and sun cancer is our biggest killer but sometimes sunburn is almost unavoidable. You can get burnt in the height of summer within an hour!
We keep aloe vera plant in our kitchen for kitchen burns and a large one outside - the leaves can be peeled back and the sap directly applied. It's very soothing.
You can also drain some of the sap into a spray bottle and dilute for an after sun spray. Perfect for nights when it's hard to sleep.
Take a cool bath with white vinegar in it. You will be a little stinky from the vinegar, but it takes away the stinging from the sunburn.
THe vinegar does help. It also works if you get stung by a jellyfish.
I usually buy the blue aloe vera b/c it has lidocaine in it. I keep it slathered on as much as possible. And use lots of lotion! It will keep you from peeling so bad.
Could you combine all those remedies? Like put it all in the blender for a super sunburn concoction? I think it's worth a try!
Soak a wash cloth (or several) in white vinegar and store in the freezer for 30 minutes. We keep pure aloe in the fridge in the summers just in case.
We ate a ton of blueberries, drank a lot of water, and slathered on the aloe! Hopefully we will all sleep a little better tonight!
Thanks ladies!
I will have to try the vinegar when I get home.
Tea bags are the best--I remember my mom using them on us when we were kids--not only did it relieve the pain but it dyed your skin tan!!!
I got a sunburn just this week while gardening. So aggravating, since I always put on sunscreen for everything else, just forgot this time. I always keep a bottle (or two) of aloe vera gel~and I never travel in the summertime w/out it. I have heard of some of these other remedies, but haven't tried them.
vinegar does work! It takes the heat and sting right out of it!! A little stinky, but it works!
refrigerate your aloe so it's really cold. and slather yourself in vineager right out of the shower.
sorry you got sun burnt, hope you get some relief!
Eeeew, don't do the vinegar! Yuck. I have gotten a ton of sunburns in my 27 years and the thing that helps me is taking a milk bath. Add a hearty amount of milk to a warm bath and soak in it. It takes away the sting! Works for household burns too.
Apple cider vinegar! Swab it onto bad sunburns to get rid of the sting. It works....but adds "stink" instead of "sting." I like vinegar, so it doesn't bother me, but... heh
There are Lidocaine sprays that you can buy in the Pharmacy area of your local Walmart or other grocery store for about 7 bucks. I never travel in the summer without it! Spray it on the sunburn and it instantly takes the pain away. You can also use it for little bug bites or small scrapes and cuts. (it kind of numbs the skin)
