Well I don't know about you, but I tossed all of my candy canes. But I am about to be inundated with these soon:
And I am thinking that Red Hot Cinnamon Syrup would work too! It might even be a fun gift to give a neighbor on Valentine's Day.
Here is Storybook Woods recipe for Candy Cane Syrup:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
3 candy canes broken in large pieces
Put all ingredients in a saucepan over medium high heat. Let simmer until sugar and candy canes have melted. Let cool and store in the fridge in a glass jar.
(Just a note - Storybook Woods said not to decrease the amount of sugar or you will not have the viscosity you want. Just remember with simple syrups, equal amount of water to sugar, but I think if you wanted to decrease it it would probably be okay. There is MORE than enough sugar in the candy you are melting to make up for it!! But if you are worried about sugar, you probably won't be making candy syrup!)
I am thinking that you could substitute a cup of red hots for the candy canes. And that you could serve it over pancakes, ice cream, drink it straight from the bottle. You know, whatever.

Oh WOW! That's all my kids would need is more sugar lol. Actually my 2 dd's wouldn't want that, but my ds would. :)
Sounds interesting. I don't know if I would like this or not. I never was a big red hots fan.
Hmm...ditto with Liz. I guess we could melt them down and paint with them or something? lol!
Painting would be fun! I am actually hot a huge Red Hot fan either. :X And the amount of sugar is a little crazy! We actually only have real Maple Syrup in our house. But I thought it was interesting and thought SOMEONE would like it! ;D
Although I might try a little bit on vanilla ice cream....
What a great idea! I'm going to try this cuz you know drinking it straight sounds the best to me...[stomach ache waiting to happen]LOL...eww! But drizzling it over a warm chocolate cake sounds delectable.
