About a year ago we switched from juice boxes that were 100% juice to a drink that contained both fruit and vegetable juice. I love that we now have a new option for those drinks: Capri Sun Super V.
Super V has a full combined serving of fruits (3/4 of a serving) and veggies (1/4 of a serving). My kids enjoy them just as much as the regular 100% fruit juice variety, and it is a great way to get even more veggies in their diet!
Another way I accomplish this is through snack time. In the summer time, snacking can become a pretty big issue. One of the best ways I have found to combat the fight for snacks is to make sure there are a lot of healthy options in the house. As soon as I get fresh veggies home, I wash and prep them so that they are easy to grab from containers in the fridge. Everything is sliced and portioned, ready to eat. This easy snack idea also makes dinner prep easier. I can grab some of the already diced veggies to throw into a salad or dinner dish.
We also have a snack routine that has worked for us for years. In the morning, right after breakfast, the kids pick out the snacks that they want for the day. Each child picks out the fruit, a veggie, other healthy snack like nuts, and what we commonly refer to as a pantry snack like crackers. The snacks are prepped, portioned, and stored for each child. These snacks can be eaten whenever they feel hungry, without asking. Once they are gone, they are gone.
After that, with permission, they can have more veggies if they are still hungry. There is never a limit to the amount of fresh veggies they are allowed to eat. At dinner, we always have at least two vegetable choices and a salad. That allows my kids to have a choice in what they are eating, but still allows me to make sure they are getting the nutrition that they need. That doesn't mean that there aren't still battles from time to time, especially with my pickiest eater, so it is nice to have something like a Capri Sun Super V that everyone drinks without a disagreement.
Nothing says they enjoyed it more than a completely flat Capri Sun pouch.

The berry one sounds the best to me. Those are great snack ideas too. We might have to try that around here. Thanks

I am SO excited about this! We have been doing the green smoothies for about a month and I have one who loves them and one who won't touch them, so this might be a better option for her! I think the berry sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteMy kids would love the berry flavor. My son has an aversion to green vegetables, so I try to sneak them in whenever I can (pizza, pasta, etc).
ReplyDeleteI shared this via twitter https://twitter.com/MeLeighBee/status/236546126902337537
ReplyDeleteI love your snack ideas! I think the apple sounds so yummy!
ReplyDeleteI think the kids would enjoy all the flavors. The younger ones would love the Apple while the older kids would be happier with the Berry or Fruit Punch.
ReplyDeleteI like to offer a variety of veggies and prepare them in different ways. If I roast cauliflower, I also serve some raw for those who don't care for roasted.

The page won't load for me, but I know there's an apple one (saw it on a coupon). My kids are apple fanatics and they would drink them up I'm sure! What a fun giveaway!
ReplyDeleteApple. Because apple is the One True Fruit and delicious in all its myriad forms. And honestly, as an adult who isn't great with fruit and veggies, I want to try these!
ReplyDeleteBerry is my favorite Capri Sun V flavor. I bought it a few weeks ago and everyone liked it. I try to limit the amount of junk food kept in the house and to have fruit, nuts, and cheese on hand for healthy snacks. altern147 [at] yahoo [dot] com
ReplyDeleteI would have to go with berry or apple. My daughter LOVES veggies, so we don't have to sneak them often. But, we follow the same "snack" plan that you do. I love that she's able to snack independently and I know she's still making healthy choices.

Fruit Punch looks great! We almost never have soda in our house, and drink lots of fruit juice, milk, and water!

ReplyDeleteBerry is our favorite flavor. We try to eat lots of vegetables and fruit but the Capri Sun Super V would be so handy to have in a cooler in the car full of icy cold drinks.
ReplyDeleteSuper V sounds great to try, we love Capri sun.

ReplyDeleteI know my kids like Fruit Punch the best! :) Love Super V!
ReplyDeleteMy kids are older and I wish they had something this healthy when they were young! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteBerry would probably be the hit at my house. Although my kids tend to "blow up" their capri sun pouches when they finish the drink. Hehe... I go to pick them up, expecting a full pouch, and almost throw them because they are just air. Grrr...
ReplyDeleteAs for snacking healthier around here, we always have a variety of veggies on hand. The kids help in the kitchen a lot and pick items for our recipes from our garden. They love all kinds of veggies and fruits because of that.

all us (4) like capri sun and since we usually like beery flavor i would bet that it would be the one for us.
ReplyDeleteI have 6 kids from 5 year old triplets up to a 22 yr old Marine and I know they would like any of the flavors. Even my Marine, he is in Afghanistan right now and he loves Capri Sun, I bet it would be a great treat after trekking through a sand storm! It's easy to get my kids to eat healthy snacks if I have something ready before they get hungry. If I wait then they will grab what they find, and it helps to leave the junk food at the store!
ReplyDeleteWe're going to have to check those out over here! I also LOVE your idea about choosing the snacks and when they're done, they're done (without limiting the healthy items). I am going to try that out, as well. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteI would like to try the berry one, I think my kiddos would like it too. I try to make vegetables fun and make it a family event and set an example by making healthy choices.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely Apple! I love just about everything Apple!!! Thanks for hosting a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy kids loved Capri Sun drinks. Now my grandchild drink them. They are great when we are out exploring.

Our favorite would have to be fruit punch. Our granddaughter loves fruits and vegetables, so we are very lucky! She loves cottage cheese and peaches for a snack after school.

ReplyDeleteMy kids have always loved capri sun. I love that I can freeze it overnight than it doubles as an Ice Pack in their lunches and by lunchtime is an Ice Cold slushie for them to drink. The Berry Flavor is my kid's Favorite.

Berry sounds delicious! I wish they'd had these when my kids were little! But even though my boys are big, I have lots of friends with little kids, so I like to keep single-serve drinks on hand. I think I've found my new brand!
ReplyDeleteI always choose Fruit Punch! :)
ReplyDeleteWe'd like the fruit punch flavor.
ReplyDeleteWe'd like the fruit punch flavor
ReplyDeleteBerry sounds like the right fit for our family! We make smoothies everyday using berries, yogurt and flaxseeds.
ReplyDeletei've always bought the fruit punch, but i like the apple the best
ReplyDeleteI would love to try these. I think the apple would be the best! I love how more and more brands are incorporating vegetables into their juice. I've always limited the juice for my son but now I'm more willing to let him have some.
ReplyDeleteI think my kids would like the fruit punch one the best.

Finn would totally go for the Apple flavor, then probably Fruit Punch. Love that they are sneaking veggies in, I'm going to have to pick some up for school lunches.
ReplyDeleteYour idea of letting the kids choose the healthy snacks is great. My daughter is not a great veggie eater. She might like the berry flavor. I'll pick them up for her to try.
ReplyDeleteMy kids have always been great about eating plenty of fruit and veggies and the fruit flavored drinks that were not 100% juice were always a treat. I think they would love all the flavors but I imagine berry would go the fastest.

ReplyDeleteSounds awesome! going to have to try this weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteBerry flavor would be our fav. Tip for healthy snacking - have things cut and washed in fridge (easy to grab)
ReplyDeleteEvery time we're in the grocery store shopping, my son always wants the berry flavor! I have to give it to him ... who am I to say no to that!
ReplyDeleteBerry flavor would be the standout, but any of them could be used in a smoothie! I put veggies into almost any main dish I make to ensure we get them.
