Fun With LEGO DUPLO Bricks and Books [$100 Lego Gift Card Giveaway]

My four-year-old is in love with books and is always asking someone to read her a story. One of her other favorite activities is using her older brothers collection of LEGO bricks to build houses and castles for her dolls. Because of her love of books and LEGOs, I was pretty sure she would love the new LEGO DUPLO Read & Build sets.

I knew I was right when she caught me taking a picture of the set and she exclaimed, "Ohhh! Can I play with those?" She was pretty excited when I told her that the new set was just for her.

These fun sets include a book and the LEGO DUPLO blocks to build the characters from the story. As you read the story, there are easy to follow instructions that allow your pre-schooler to build the characters that you are reading about. There are also questions that not only help them interact with the book, but allow them to act it out with the DUPLO characters they have just created.

Not only does the addition of the blocks make reading the story fun, but asking pre-school aged kids questions about the story and allowing them to engage with the book is a great way to promote reading readiness. I always try to ask questions about the stories I read to my kids. It is a skill I picked up in my elementary education classes. These books make that even easier because the questions are built right into the story.

Not only will these books help prepare pre-school age kids for reading, they are also great for practicing color and shape recognition as the children locate the required bricks for character building. Not to mention that they are learning to follow printed visual instructions and are getting practice problem solving as well. All of these skills are what make LEGO sets some of my favorite toys for children of any age and these LEGO DUPLO Read & Build sets are the perfect skill level for Miss Ruby.

Reading the book once wasn't enough, so we read the story together twice as she followed along building the characters and acting out the rolls they played. And when story time was over, there was still plenty of fun to be had with her new farm animal friends.

Do you have a preschooler that would love a LEGO DUPLO Read & Build set? Tell me how you think the new Read & Build sets will help your child learn to read and you will be entered for the chance to win a $100 LEGO Gift Card!
