Don't Fret the Sweat [$100 Visa Gift Card Giveaway]

At the end of the 2008 school year I was helping out with my son's 1st grade end-of-school party in Arizona.  By May it is HOT outside, so when the kids piled back into the classroom after recess, ready to party, they were sweaty and stinky.  I was actually surprised at just how stinky a class full of 7-year-olds smelled.  I felt really bad for their teacher who had been putting up with the smell every afternoon since the weather warmed up in March.  It was then that I decided my son would be wearing deodorant to school.

Remembering the experience, I had my daughter start wearing deodorant in first grade, when the weather was warmer, and I am sure I will do the same with my youngest when she gets older too.   It is easy to introduce new routines when they are young and it makes them feel like they are getting to do something grown-up.  This option is much more appealing then waiting until middle school when it might just come out sounding like I was telling them they stink.  Like they don’t have enough to deal with in middle school!

How do you deal with your kiddos and the deodorant situation?  How old were they, or will they be, when you start having them wear antiperspirant or deodorant?  I don’t know about you, but this isn’t something I remember planning when I thought about having kids.
