Dollar Tree Halloween Decor

I am going to pretend that the lousy lighting was intentional...to make it look Spookier:

I stopped at not one, but two Dollar Trees yesterday to get some of their fun (and SUPER CHEAP) Halloween items. They didn't have nearly as much stuff as they had last year, but I did find the skeleton hands!

I wanted to take a picture tonight so I could show you my finds, but it is late and I am too lazy to actually upload a picture from my camera, so you get this 'spooky' picture taken from my phone.

Here is another picture with a little more light so you can see what I am talking about:

On the far left is a 'garland' (for lack of a better word) that is bloody gauze. It is pretty crazy looking in real life. I bunched it up and put it in one of my apothecary jars.

In the middle is a little skeleton that was part of another garland. He is hanging inside another apothecary jar.

And last but not least, on the right, I bought the skeleton hands from my post yesterday and a full skeleton that I broke apart and all the pieces got dumped in a third jar.

I have more arranging to do, but I was just so excited that I found the hands that I wanted to share it with you. And the best part is it was all for under $5. It would have been under $4, but I took Toots with me. She has hit the special age that is 2 AND she hadn't had a nap today, so when she became overly attached to a doll from the dollar store I felt my sanity was worth the extra dollar.

  5. I like this! The bones are much creepier in the apothecary jar... why? Have you ever put a head of cauliflower in a glass bowl or hurricane lamp with colored water? It really looks like a brain.

Oh, I just posted a new project from Martha on my blog. It's not Halloween themed, but I think you'd like it anyway.

Went to the dollar store last week, and came home with nothing like that! we need a new dollar store i think. but I did grab some tombstones, skull heads, and am making a cool grave yard out in my front yard, then a coughin (sp? lol) in the middle of it all. that is if we can ever get over this dumb pig flu!

  14. I bought the sketeton garlands as well. BUT thought that they would be fun for a dinner party that I'm having. I'm going to wrap them separately in jute on the outside of the nakin/silverware rolls.

How did you get your skeleton to stand up? I LOVE it!!!

  15. Looks great! I too picked up some of the hands today at the Dollar Tree. What a wonderful store! I had to stop myself from buying some of the Christmas stuff they had out. :)

  16. Thanks to your post yesterday, I headed over to Dollar Tree first thing this morning and came home with a couple bags of those hands!!! AWESOME! I almost bought the skeleton garland too but had to put it back (along with a few other goodies) in exchange for craft supplies for my preschooler.

Thanks so much for the tips!
