Rubber Cement and Egg Dying

My kids love to color on eggs with white crayons before they dip them in the dye, but Project Create a Home has a really fun spin on the same idea:

You take rubber cement and drizzle it on the egg. Dye them and then peel off the rubber cement (which is fun in and of itself! I love peeling off rubber cement. Is that weird?)

Then you have a cool design like this:

What is your favorite Egg dying technique?

  1. We always die them after we peel them and then make potato salad with them! In fact, I can't wait. The colorful potato salad is the best part of Easter dinner!

  2. First--I thought it was just some weird OCD issue I had with the rubber cement--thank you for validating me!
Second--you can dye them after you peel them??!! Sometimes I wonder where I have been all my life....

  5. Lisa, I will have to email Charmaine and ask her if they taste any different dyed? The dye is just food coloring and vinegar, so it is completely safe to eat. I like cracking the eggs and then dying them so that you get the tie dye effect, but I have never dyed a completely peeled egg. I might have to try that for deviled eggs this year!

  6. Um, I am also a closet fan of peeling rubber cement. Did you paint it on your desk in elementary school just so you could peel it off? Ah, the memories...

  9. I LOVE my rubber cement...the smell reminds me of my childhood;) I NEVER would have thought of this. Brilliant!!

My kids just like spooning the colors over the egg and watching it drip. Gotta love messy projects.
