Hanging Your Stockings Without a Mantel

This is actually the first year in a long time that we have had a fireplace.  I am still trying to figure out how to hang the stockings from it since none of the stocking holders that I have been hoping for years to use will sit on the edge of the silly rounded mantel.

So I have been browsing for other stocking options.  Here are some for those of you that don't have a mantel of your own or are just looking for something new.

The Nest has one of the most traditional ideas, your banister:

If you don't have stairs than Country Living has some great ideas that include a dresser, your bed, and the piano:

Hanging them in the windows is a fun idea from Apartment Therapy:

And Restyled Home has hers hung from her wainscoting:

So where do you hang your stockings?  Even though we have a mantel, I might just go for the piano this year.

Great ideas! I used to put mine at the foot of the kids beds. They asked me to do it again this year and we have a new mantle!

I found a product that worked to hold my stockings on my mantle. I found it at Bed Bath and Beyond. It is called a Mantle Clip. It works great. Here is a link:

I used the doorknobs in my apartment :-)

I have one hanging on my kitchen door (using those 3m removable hooks).

I hung a shelf in our dining room, specifically for our stockings and for seasonal decor and it turned out fab!

It drives me crazy not having a mantle. So, I got a stocking hanger from Brylane Home to display our stockings. Here's a pic: http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj216/tara_burkholder/Home%20on%20Braden%20Gate/002.jpg

Before we had a mantel we used to hang them on our dining room chairs and do the stockings as I made breakfast.

we use our stairs, I am always worried something will happen to them that close to the fire!

I strung up some twine and put them up with clothes pins, Like they are on the laundry line. It works in my seriously space challenged apartment without a fireplace.

I hung mine on our curtain rod this year!!
I find stocking hangers so expensive. But I'm thinking of making a stocking hanging that's similar to a coat rack and hang it temporarily each year for stockings!

We've never had a mantle on which to hang our stockings. Growing up they were always put out on the couch Christmas Eve so that's what I had done with my family until a few years ago. I took a shower curtain rod and fitted it into one of the windows near the Christmas tree. All the stockings just slide on before it gets twisted tight into the frame. They stay up really well, despite the crazy amount of weight.

Cute ideas! The shot at the foot of the beds is really lovely...but these are some really creative ways to display stockings. We don't have a very good mantle for hanging, so this is really useful to get my creativity flowing :)

We have ours hanging down the side of the stairs, but we don't have the banister, it's just a wall that goes up at an angle. I just attached some of the 3M hooks at even points going up and hid the hooks with garland. I think it's probably the best looking decoration in the house!
